Another Crossroads for Pawpaw

Saturday, Pawpaw had a bad day. A really bad day. He had had a bad night, was so disoriented that he tried to get into bed with his roommate, and had trouble distinguishing between his dreams and reality. He has delusions of being in jail and being physically attacked by the nurses. When my mother-in-law got there sometime after noon, he asked her who she was. Even after she explained, she wasn't sure he ever really knew her, and she cried all the way home.

  1. so so sorry. How horrible for all of you. At least he doesn't know what's going on, because that would be even worse.

  4. It really is so sad for us kids to have to witness things like that. I had to for both parents. And to think it may one day happen to us. Like my one friend says, sometimes it's better to just drop dead. But we don't get to choose how or when we go.

  5. Thank you Amy.

Cheyenne, you are so right. My oldest dd works at a nursing home and she said all the aides and nurses agree that they don't want to ever go to a nursing home.

Back when Pawpaw was clear headed most of the time, he talked about going home and not wanting to be there. I see other residents asking to go home too. I never thought discussion of the degree of lucidity would be a daily topic at our house. I can only pray we are lucky enough to die in our sleep in our own bed.

  7. I am sorry you and your family is going through this. Unfortunately there is nothing really that anyone can do except to remember the good times with our loved ones. Just know that there are others thinking about you.
