Really Blogger? A Way Around the New Code Words

Have you seen the new code words on some blogs? In an attempt to add security, blogger has added code words that are harder to read.

Blogger isn't the first, other blogs have hard to read code words, some even harder to read than blogger.

These are the worst:

Unless it's a blog I really want to comment on, I usually hit the back button when I come across the codes, mainly because it's just a hassle. Now with these new words, it's not only a hassle but hard on my eyes. Unless your blog is extremely popular or political, you probably don't have to worry too much about spam or rude comments. I don't have moderation or codes on my comments. I check my email frequently, and all comments come through my email so I can quickly see if there are any comments that need to be deleted, and truthfully, I think I've only deleted two in the entire time I've blogged.

But I did discover something today that may help you with these codes. They don't have to be typed exactly right. I've noticed that before on Craig's List, and tried it out on this new blogger code word box today. As long as I got close to the word they have, and had capitals in the right spaces, my comments were posted. I even added an extra letter here and there and it still went through.

Hope that makes it easier for you too.

  1. i was beginning to suspect this might be true as i'm pretty sure i don't get it right as often as it allows me to go ahead and comment.
it's good to have it verified by another blogger.

  2. You are so lucky to not have had a lot of spammy comments, I (sighhing) have not been so lucky. And, after they bombed me with up to 10 or more a day on one blog, they moved to another and started adding to the count there.

I have had captcha on and off, threaded comments on and off. I am so sick of trying to figure out what is the safest thing for my readers. Just what is the newest trick/game in town?

    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  3. I took verification off my blog and have had 3 spam type comments in 2 days. I don't mind dealing with this myself if it helps my readers. Next time you make a comment requiring verification, click on one of the options, i think it's a question mark, I can't remember. If I understand correctly, we're being used as guinea pigs to translate text.

  4. I am going to take the verification off - hopefully today (said hopefully because I am still way behind on real things). I just hope I don't get the spam type. Perhaps if I put the hold on the comments it won't happen.

  5. I took it off my blog and got spam the next day. I'd rather not deal with it, so I put it back on. I know it bothers some people, and I'm sorry about that. I don't think it's that big of a deal. Maybe I'll take a poll of my followers and go with their votes.

  6. I've been wondering if close is good enough, I know there have been a few words that I can't tell what the letters are. I took verification off my blog and so far, so good - no spam.

Your comments make my day and I look forward to visiting your blog too! If you are a no-reply blogger and don't have your blog on your profile, could you write it in your comment so I can visit you? Thanks! Due to a recent spamming problem, comments with links and unidentified anonymous comments will be deleted.
