Happy Valentine's Day!

Procrastinator that I am, I waited until the last minute to make a couple of Valentine's decorations. These fabric wreaths are nothing new, I first saw them over twenty years ago. I made one for my mother-in-law then and intended to make one for myself, but I never did. Then, they fell out of favor for many years, but now they are back, so I finally made one for myself.

I won't do a tutorial since there are so many out there already. Just google wreath made with pinked cloth squares and you'll find plenty. When I made one twenty years ago, I cut each square with pinking shears, but this time I used an Olfa pinking blade for a rotary cutter. So. much. easier. And faster. Zip, zip, zip and they were all done. Start to finish, the round wreath only took about thirty minutes.

For these wreaths, I used a heart shaped Styrofoam wreath form, a round Styrofoam wreath form, and about two yards of fabric (three different cottons and one sheer glittery fabric), cut into three inch squares. I also used about a quarter yard of silver lame. I used a dull pencil to poke holes in the Styrofoam and filled the hole with white glue before pushing the fabric square in with the pencil. I gave it a little twist to secure it in the hole and it also helped get the pencil out. I also made the holes about a half inch apart.

A lot of tutorials just pin the fabric on, or poke it into the wreath form without glue, but I plan on keeping these awhile and wanted the fabric to stay put. The fabric in my mother-in-law's wreath was still secure when she got rid of it four years ago.

I was going to cover the heart wreath completely, but after I had a few squares attached to the side, I thought it looked like a flower cluster, so I left it and cut the silver lame into a few three inch strips with the pinking blade and wrapped the rest of the heart. Originally, I made some squares out of the silver lame to give the wreaths a little bling, but I didn't like it in there, so pulled all those out and bought the sheer pink fabric. It has just the right amount of sparkle without being garish. I also used a strip of the sheer pink to make the hanging ribbon.

I decided to use the round wreath as a candle ring, so didn't put any other embellishments or ribbon on it.

Also, being the procrastinator that I am, I didn't start taking pictures until evening, and my camera refuses to take decent pictures under house lighting. Sorry about that, and about my poor attempt to block out the crap in the background.
