Almost Wordless Wednesday

A couple of days before Christmas, we camped at Caprock Canyons State Park near Quitaque, Texas. This is my favorite camping destination. The park has a herd of wild buffalo, prairie dogs, and some pronghorn antelope. We have yet to see the antelope. This time we walked the canyon rim.

On one side of the trail is the flat plain of the caprock.

On the other side of the trail is the canyon dropping down from the caprock's edge. Here and there along the trail are paths that lead right to the edge of the canyon for great shots of the canyon and surprise shots of husbands taking photos of the canyon.

From these vantage points are breathtaking views into the canyon.

NC Sue, if you are reading this, I wanted to comment on your cotton boll pictures but can't comment on your blog anymore without joining Google Plus. I love that you grew them and got them to go through all the stages. I've always thought it was a pretty plant, but never noticed that the blooms turned pink. Driving down the road, that isn't very noticeable I guess, so I was thrilled to see it.

  3. Can you walk down to the bottom of the canyon? Would you want to? A pulley to get back up again?

  5. Marti,

Thanks for dropping by to join me in a not-so-WW! The southwest is so different from the east landscape that I'm accustomed to but in its harsh, ruggedness is beauty and I'd love to see the canyons, desserts, and mountain ranges on that side of the country. Great captures. I loved the earthy brown tones in your photos! Have a good evening and please stop in anytime!

  7. Toni, I'm sure people have climbed down into this canyon. I'm not much of a climber and we were keeping an eye out for snakes too. There are places where the road goes into the canyon so people can drive down and hike or camp. It is even prettier than this part.

  9. The red color in the canyon is so breathtaking. And the one shot in which the canyon appears to take on a horseshoe shape - only nature can create such wonders! Thanks for sharing with us!
