Funny Feline Friday

I think my cat is a masochist. He thinks he is a martyr.

This is not the face of a happy cat. This is his accusing look. Blaming me for the too small, too hard, and too uncomfortable bed he is in.

He has a soft, cushy bed.

But will he sleep in it? No. He sleeps in every new box that comes in, and under boxes that are propped against another box. He sleeps on the rug in front of the door so he can see us from all directions. He sleeps inside the coiled garden hose. He sleeps on an uneven pile of lumber. But he won't sleep in his bed. So it was no surprised to see him sleeping in this tub that had been in the pond for a year and smelled like pond scum. I threw a rug in it to make it more comfortable, and then he wouldn't sleep in it anymore.

He likes to be wherever we are working, regardless of the noise or mess, so it should have been no surprise to find that he had made himself at home in this container. It is right in the middle of the room we are insulating.

It looks a little like a cat bed, but it isn't. It is a cast iron hibachi that I put on some wood to flatten it, and I put a towel over it to keep the dust and cat hair from sticking to the oil on it.

It can't be comfortable, and not just because it is iron. See the middle? The damper is in the middle of the hibachi, sticking up right where Buddy's lying.

After I took these pictures, I moved the damper to the side and covered it back up. Then, I put a chair cushion on the floor for him to sleep on. When I came back through the next time, he was back in the hibachi. Silly cat.

  1. I had to laugh at that Marti, my cats are the same! They have comfortable beds but will they use them? No!! They will sleep on my bed, my sofas, my desk, any box they find...

  2. It doesn't matter what you buy them, they will find the places they like and that's where they will be. I do love it that he wants to be with you. Not all cats do that.

Thanks for joining Feline Friday. Most appreciated.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend. ♥

  3. Hey, you know what they say, comfy is in the paw of the beholder.

  4. Such a cutie. That is too funny he doesn't prefer the bed.

  5. They do find the funniest places to sleep in don't they? Almost never the fancy new beds we buy because we think they will love them, lol!

  6. Cats just want to make the staff uncomfortable. They, of course, are comfortable anywhere except the vet's office, or any place the staff really want them to be.

  7. Cats are just very strange. But they are very discerning about how they are strange. Not sure that made sense, but hopefully you get what I mean.

  8. Silly cat, indeed. But we find them adorable and lovable just as they are (and perhaps because of who they are …)

  9. Marti - I'm back. To answer your questions on my recent post - most days we walked about 15 miles, but it would vary depending on how much elevation gain and our destination. And when I use the term UK, it includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

  11. Smiles! Formerly owned by a cat, but sadly pet-free now. But I haven't forgotten.

  12. Marti: My cat has the same type bed but she loves it.
I am not sure how comfortable that hibachi would be but cats seem to adjust.
I remember putting in insulation on our first three homes after that we had the rest done by a builder, I always had the itch from the fiber glass insulation.

  13. A cat's idea of comfort and our idea are two totally different things. I am sure they do it to confuse us.

  14. I was sure I had commented when you published this post but it was right before we went on holiday. I was visiting blogs between packing so most likely forgot to hit publish.
Cats sleep in the weirdest places and I am sure the intention is to make us feel guilty.
