What a surprising fall this has been. Flooding rains followed by a few light freezes, and then days of warm weather. The plants don't know what to do. Spring bulbs are beginning to push green leaves out of the ground, and callery pears all over town are blooming. At the same time, foliage is turning brown and leaves fall from trees.
In my yard, the water lilies are putting forth a last big effort. Other plants, protected by buildings or taller plants, are unexpectedly blooming.
I didn't deadhead around the few blooms in my yard, or clean up the fallen leaves, or clean up any bits laying around. It's just the way it is this time of year.

Wordless Wednesday
How lovely to have all this bonus colour at Christmas... I live on a south facing hill so my garden has also become a bit 'seasonally confused'. I'm just worried about the bad weather that is bound to hit us eventually. Jx
ReplyDeleteWe're in an area that typically doesn't see a lot of freezing weather, but this is still pretty unusual for us. I guess plants are made to cope with change.
DeleteIt looks like you found a lot of blooms even if it is the cold season!
ReplyDeleteYes, most of them seem to have found a little shelter to keep warm and keep blooming. Except for a couple of light freezes, it really hasn't been cold here yet.
DeleteWonderful flower photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLots of color in your neck of the woods. Beautiful shots. It's pretty much brown here.
ReplyDeleteIt's mostly brown around here too. I don't know how these survived so they could bloom again.
DeletePoor plants don't know what season it is, but they sure are pretty flowers.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ☺
Thank you. Most of these plants have been in my yard for awhile so those that survive are used to adversity.
DeleteSome beauties still hanging on. The same thing here with temp. Hope this dosen't kill anything when winter gets serious.
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing that this will be a mild winter with rain instead of ice. I hope so, though I've never mowed the yard in January and can't say I want to either.
DeleteNothing is growing around here - cold, wind, and snow abound.
ReplyDeleteHow much snow? I love snow but wouldn't want to have to get out in it if I didn't want to.
DeleteI love your waterlily's! Your plants look beautiful!

Thank you. Water lilies are my favorite too.
DeleteThese are all great shots, but the first few are perfection!

Thank you. That's quite a compliment coming from you. I like the first one and the mexican poinsettia, although technically I guess that isn't a bloom as much as changing leaf color.
